Grovsnus Black Snus Review
Manufacturer: Swedish Match
Nicotine Strength: Average (12mg)
Grovsnus is one of the more pricey snus brands. I often find myself skeptical of the price fluctuation between so called premium and budget brands, as I personally do not find one to be better than the other. Unlike cigars, the construction and consistency of snus is of fairly equal quality regardless of whether it is expensive or cheap, so I can’t really understand the price difference between Grovsnus, which is currently $4.50+, and Oden’s, which is currently $2.70+.
Setting the price factor aside, I would say that Grovsnus is an interesting portion with one of the best pouches in the business, very lightly textured with an almost silky feel. The taste is pleasant with no harsh undertones. The primary flavor profile would be a slightly peppery tobacco with a nice smooth pure vanilla flavor cutting right through. When I say vanilla I don’t mean the artificial flavoring variant, but rather the pure unvarnished subtle vanilla pod.
All in all, trying this snus was both a very pleasant experience whilst also being slightly boring. I think Grovnus Black would make a fine “white” portion for daily use, but when opening the can I have to admit that with the huge price difference, the cool black pouches, very nice layout and stark, strong advertising I did expect a little more punch than what I received.
Conclusion: A very pleasant snus portion with a non-abrasive flavor profile. In my opinion, it is a victim of its own image as its mildness can feel slightly off-putting. Don’t expect fireworks, but it’s great if you simply want to enjoy a smooth flavor and great portion mouth-feel.
